The journey flow for
writing songs at TCH
We believe God has given each of us special gifts + talents.
And so we are moved to write songs that God has stirred in our hearts for his people.
Spiritual & Creative Direction
Discuss the spiritual and creative direction for a songwriting retreat or project.
Planning starts for Team preparation; includes preparing any workshops
Duration: 1 - 2 weeks | Who: Pastors & Worship Leaders
Pray, Prepare & Grow
Spend personal time to spiritually prepare through prayer and studying His Word.
This may include praying and studying a devotion together.
During this time, there may be some workshops the team will need to participate in.
Duration: 4 - 6 weeks | Who: Pastors, Worship Leaders and Songwriting Team (Everyone)
Retreat or Project
A location off-site is booked. Food is organised for the team while away.
Pack and transport any gear needed for the weekend/project.
The Creative team join the team to document the weekend/project.
Duration: 3 days - 1 week | Who: Everyone
Reflect & Plan
Pastors and Worship Leaders debrief following weekend/project.
Discuss and plan next steps to completing songs.
Duration: 3 days - 1 week | Who: Leaders
Feedback
Final group session to review songs and provide feedback.
This may require splitting into groups of similar discipline ie Vocalists, writers, musicians.
This could be a 1 - 2 hour session. Musical Instruments may be needed.
Based on the Feedback, a Demo version is then prepared by the Core Songwriting Team (Worship Leaders + Pastors)
Duration: 1 session | Who: Everyone
Live! Production
Produce songs to completion and prepare lyrics and music to sing with church family.
Lyrics are sent to Production team.
Worship team begin to learn new songs.
Worship team prepare and record/film a version to share with the church
These songs become the “Live Versions”
Duration: 2 - 3 weeks | Who: Core Songwriting Team
Live! Version
Ready to sing new songs Live! during a church service.
Communicate to church in Local Notices that new song will be song during service.
Service Announcer to also announce new song sung during service.
Worship Leader to introduce the song.
Duration: 1 - 2 weeks | Who: Core Songwriting Team, Service Announcer, Worship Leader
Studio Production
Begin work to do a studio recording of the song.
This is to prepare songs for an official release outside of our church family.
Potentially could lead to creative videos of songs etc.
These songs would then become “Studio Versions”
Duration: 2 - 4 weeks | Who: Core Songwriting Team
Official Release
Sing release or this could be part of a body of work - Song collection (album)
Leading up to an official release there would need to be a plan to communicate internally to our church family and publicly on our digital platforms.
It’s important that we package our message in officially releasing these songs with the intention to give glory and honour to God and to grow the Kingdom
Release to Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Spotify
Potentially look to hold a live Worship night and invite others to be a part of the official release.
